Do this right away
- Take it out of the water and turn it off. Don't wait to see if it still works.
- Do not plug it in or put it on a wireless charger.
- Remove the case and the SIM tray so trapped water can escape.
- Dry the outside with a lint-free cloth and gently tap the phone, port side down, against your palm.
- Leave it powered off in a dry place with air moving around it.
What not to do
- Don't put it in rice. Rice doesn't pull water from inside the phone, and dust and starch can get into the ports.
- Don't use a hair dryer or oven. Heat damages the battery, adhesive and screen.
- Don't shake it hard; that spreads water further inside.
- Don't keep turning it on to check. Every power-on with water inside risks a short circuit.
Why fast action matters
Water itself isn't the main problem. Minerals and salts left behind start corroding the logic board within hours, and corrosion keeps spreading for days even after the phone seems dry. A phone that works today can fail next week. The sooner the board is opened and cleaned, the better the chances.
What we do in the shop
During our water damage repair we open the phone, disconnect the battery, and inspect the board under magnification. We clean corrosion, dry everything properly and test each part: screen, charging, cameras, speakers and microphones. Then we tell you what works and what doesn't, and what a repair would cost, before doing it.
Pool, lake and salt water
Chlorinated and salt water are much more corrosive than tap water. If your phone went into a pool or the Gulf, rinse the outside briefly with fresh water, dry it, and bring it in the same day.
Protect your data first
If the phone still turns on, back it up to iCloud or Google as soon as possible. Our data privacy policy explains how we handle your device while it's with us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does rice fix a wet phone?
No. Rice doesn't remove water from inside, and Apple also advises against it. Power it off and let air circulate instead.
My phone works after getting wet. Should I still bring it in?
Yes, if it was submerged. Corrosion can cause failures days later.
Is water damage covered by warranty?
Usually not, even on water-resistant phones. Check AppleCare+ or your carrier plan.
How fast should I bring it in?
The same day if possible. Earlier cleaning gives better results.
