How to Prepare Your Phone for a Repair: A Simple Checklist

Repair tips · · 2 min read · H Wireless Repair Team

Most repairs don't touch your data, but it's always smart to be prepared. A little preparation also helps us test your phone properly and hand it back faster. Here's the checklist we recommend before any phone, tablet or laptop repair.

1. Back up your data

On iPhone, go to Settings > your name > iCloud > iCloud Backup and tap Back Up Now. On Android, use Google One backup in Settings, or Samsung Cloud on Galaxy phones. If the screen is broken but the phone still works, connecting it to a computer may still allow a backup.

2. Know your passcode

To test the screen, cameras, Face ID and charging after a repair, we need to get past the lock screen. You can give us the passcode, or stay while we test the phone. We never open your photos, messages or accounts. Our device data privacy policy explains how we handle this.

3. Write down what's wrong

Note exactly what happens and when. "Charges only at an angle," "screen flickers after a drop," or "dies at 30%" helps us find the cause faster than "it's broken."

4. What to bring

  • The device itself, with its case and screen protector if you'd like them refitted
  • Your charger and cable if the problem is charging
  • For laptops, the power adapter
  • Any previous repair receipts if the device was fixed before

5. Do you need to turn off Find My?

For most repairs at our shop, no. If a specific repair requires it, we'll tell you before we start. Keep your Apple ID or Google password handy just in case.

6. Check your warranty or insurance

If your phone has AppleCare+, a Samsung warranty or carrier insurance, check your coverage first. It may cost less than an independent repair, and we'll tell you if that's the case.

What happens at the shop

We run a free diagnostic, tell you the price and time, and only start once you approve. Many repairs, like screen repair and battery replacement, are done the same day. You can also read our repair warranty and iPhone repair FAQs.
